American Wine — But Not California

  • 2333 Webster Street Palo Alto, CA, 94301 United States (map)

Note: This month’s Winers gathering will be on a Thursday rather than our usual Friday evening.

California dominates the conversation around American wine, but the United States has quietly become one of the most diverse wine-producing countries in the world.

For this tasting, California is off limits. Instead, bring something to explore from regions like the Willamette Valley in Oregon, the Columbia River Gorge in Washington, New York’s Finger Lakes, Virginia, Texas, Michigan, and beyond.

From elegant Pinot Noir to electric Riesling and unexpected varietals thriving in new climates, this evening is about discovering the depth and creativity of American wine outside its most famous state.

As a small bonus theme, the next day is Juneteenth, so extra appreciation points for anyone who brings a wine produced by Black winemakers or Black-owned wineries

Things to bring:

  • A bottle of wine to share (matching the theme of the evening)

  • A wine glass

  • A small snack or dish for the group

  • A jacket and/or blanket for cooler evenings

  • Feel free to bring a new friend or neighbor

What we provide:

  • Wine equipment (openers, Coravin, decanters, aerators, etc.)

  • A selection of snacks

  • Water (sparkling and still)

  • Propane heaters

  • The occasional bonus bottle

Please try to arrive as close as possible to the posted start time so everyone has the chance to taste all of the wines.
As always, if you would like to host this or a future event, just let us know and we can happily rotate the location.
