With the Soccer (or Football) World Cup 2022 in full swing, we couldn’t help but notice that most great soccer countries happen to also be pretty good at wine! (Coincidence?) For our last tasting of 2022 we ask you all to bring a wine from the country you think (or hope) will win the World Cup.

The winner (or winners) will get a surprise in the new year.

After almost a year as a Palo Alto neighbor and regular winer, Victoria will move back to Paris. We want to give her a proper winer goodbye with plenty of tasty wines.

Now, what is a wine worthy of a goodbye, you may ask? Well, that’s up to you. Maybe a sparkly wine to celebrate the great times we had, or a typical California wine to show off one last time what we produce domestically, or maybe you have a special bottle you’ve been saving for a special occasion.

The main thing will be to have you all there and to send off Victoria with one last memory of this great group of people.

For those who’ve been with the group for a while, this next theme might look and sound familiar but it was so much fun we are bringing it back.

For our next tasting, we have a bit of a challenge:

Bring a wonderfully delicious wine

Make it as cheap as possible

The goal is the best quality at the smallest cost. Despite the picture boxed wine is not allowed (except if you have some truly exceptional boxed wine) and fancy gifted wines don't count either.
During the tasting, we will guess the price and judge the quality of each wine. The person with the cheapest wine and the best rating will get a price.

P.s. For those who’ve attended the first version of this event, you are not allowed to bring last year’s wine.

Things to bring:
- wine to share
- a jacket and/or blanket
- Wine glass
- some snack or food for the group

Hosted Tasting: Natural wine making in California

  • 2333 Webster Street Palo Alto, CA, 94301 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

For this tasting, we will have our friends from Delicious Wines in Napa host an educational tasting about natural wines and minimal intervention winemaking.

Delicious Wines (https://www.instagram.com/deliciouswinescrew) is a group of young winemakers and Sommeliers from Napa who want to change the often stuffy attitude around wine by sharing their passion in a casual, approachable, and fun environment.
They will teach us what natural wine actually is and we will be tasting some of their own wines, try some wines from natural wine 'start ups', and compare them with some mainstream winemakers from Napa.

Instead of bringing your own wines, we ask all attendees to pay $35 to cover the wine purchases and travel expenses from Napa.

We will provide snacks and some food for the evening.
Please make sure to indicate any +1 in the comments o we can plan for the correct headcount. Please bring your own glasses and let us know if you have any questions.

If possible please RSVP on Nextdoor.

Special: Griffin Hill Tasting

Special: Griffin Hill Tasting

Rather than venturing into New Zealand wines next week, Jeff Griffin from Griffin Hill Winery has generously offered to sponsor our next tasting.

We will be treated to some delicious Santa Cruz Mountain wines hosted by the winemaker himself. In addition, we are proposing a change of scenery as Marsha and Tushar offered to host this tasting in their temporary home in Woodside.

If this location change complicates things for too many of you, please let us know, and we will move it to our backyard on Webster, but there may be some carpool opportunities.

Alex and I can take up to 6 passengers with pick up and drop off anywhere in Palo Alto.

For this particular tasting, you don't have to bring any wine but don't forget a glass. Tips for the winemaker are appreciated but not required. We will provide the address to confirmed attendees via private message.

Please RSVP on Nextdoor.
